World Snow Day takes place on 21th January. AEMET (the State Meteorogical Office), under the Environmental Affairs Secretary of State of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fishing, Food and Environmental Affairs, joins the celebration, together with all ski resorts worldwide, organizing plenty of activities to show the best of winter sports and the beauty of the environment where they are practiced. The International Ski Federation established this celebration in 2007 with the goal of bringing families and people in general to the Snow and informing about the benefits of snow sports, the importance of a responsible practice and the need for being respectful and preserving the environment.

LA MOLINA – MASELLA:

These two resorts make a total de 111 km of slopes and are linked by lifts; therefore, users can enjoy both resorts with the same pass. They are locates in the area of the Cerdaña and they are traditionally the most appreciated by the Catalans who are keen on winter sports. La Molina stands out for its busy social life and its broad offer of ski and snowboarding courses. The Masella overlooks the Cerdaña Valley at its whole, which is the largest one at the Pyrenees.

This resort is located within the Natural Park of Aigües Tortes, in the Valley of Boí, in Lleida. It is the highest and most modern resort at the Pyrenees (with a height of 2750 meters, opened back in 1990), but it is a small one and has no accommodation by the resort. It is also very attractive for the environment where the resort is located, surrounded by villages with awesome Romanic buildings, as well as the broad leisure offer together with other activities (golf, tennis, futsal, etc.).

There is a shuttle bus from Barcelona to this ski resort. It is located in the town of Rialp, in the Lleida Pyrenees, at the foot of Peak l’Orri (2440 meters); most of its slopes are facing north, for which they enjoy a well-earned reputation for the best snow of all Pyrenees resorts. It is thought for a family public and beginner skiers and snowboarders. One of its most renowned facilities is the Snowpark, pioneer in the Pyrenees and, for many years, at the forefront of the latest trends of freestyle. Also in Port-Ainé we can find the highest hotel in the Pyrenees, located at 2000-meter height.

VALL DE NÚRIA

It is one of the most familiar and welcoming ski resorts, thanks to the service portfolio offered to the visitors in the middle of the mountains. The Valley of Núria is located in the municipality of Queralbs, province of Gerona, at a height of 2000 meters; it is easily accessible by train (Ferrocarriles de Cataluña) and the rack railway of Núria, with amazing views during the journey. They are low or mid difficulty slopes and make barely 7km; therefore, it is ideal for kids that are learning to ski.

You can also visit some cultural attractions, such as the Sanctuary where the Virgin of Núria is, or Sant Giles Chapel.
