Summer is coming, so is the warm weather… and the most expected festivals arrive! Barcelona makes a show of the great festival programs attracting more and more people each year. We will go over the main festivals of the city this summer, with special mention to Sónar, starting today and celebrating its 25th anniversary. Fancy going for a dance?
SÓNAR FESTIVAL:
From 14th to 16th June 2018
Do you know how Sónar will celebrate their silver jubilee? They’ll do it making a call to extraterrestrial intelligence. The quintessential electronic and advanced music festival gains altitudes, space altitude, actually…
Sónar launches “Sónar Calling GJ273b” in cooperation with the Catalonia Institute of Space Studies (IEEC) –a research institute that studies all areas of space science-; and METI International (Messaging Extraterrestrial Intelligence), a research organization in favor of having pro-active contact with extraterrestrial civilizations. Together, they’ve carried out the first transmission of clear and intentional signals to a specific nearby destination that appears to offer the necessary conditions to house life, the Luyten Star; it is an exoplanet also known as GJ 273, located at a distance of 12.4 light years from Earth (over 120 billions kilometers).
Apart from this huge commitment to technology and interspace communication, the festival counts on the best current electronic music and a special support of innovation and creativity as usual. This year we can highlight:
- Chiasm installation by Edwin Van der Heide at Barcelona city hall.
- SonarXS: noise, trap, avant-garde and futurist dance.
- Our must see concert choice: 2manydjs, gorillaz, Thom Yorke, Yung Lean, Rosalía, Cornelius, Laurel Halo, Fatima Al Qadiri, Niño de Elche & Israel Galván, Errorsmith, Chino Amobi, JASSS…
More to emphasize!
There is no end… The festival joins the organization ‘No callem’ in order to reject any kind of sexual or sexist assault. Last but not least, the festival has the objective of achieving an event carbon-neutral.

This festival keeps gaining followers every year and each edition gets a greater audience. As you may know already, it is a festival held in Vilanova i la Geltrú. This year, there is a surprising line-up where we can find Los Planetas, Calexico, Franz Ferdinand, Iron & Wine y They Might Be Giants among many others.
Vida is sea, nature, light, and also art. Its idyllic location allows fantastic venues: three superb natural environments. Plus, it counts of a camping area connected to the rest of venues with a shuttle service, as well as bikes. What does it look like?

FESTIVAL JARDINS DE PEDRALBES 2018:
From 6th June to 13th July
It is just another one of the summer classics that cannot be missed on our list. We do love this long lasting in time event! As it happens in every edition, this festival intends to be a speaker for emerging but varied music and it brings a pretty heterogeneous line-up. It is much more than a cycle of concerts at an impressive venue, Pedralbes gardens. This year, at the gardens, we will have the chance to enjoy: Ainhoa Arteta, Simple Minds, La Casa Azul y Mariza and others.
