The Principal Theater of Barcelona, formerly the Santa Cruz Theater, is one of the oldest theaters in Spain, and the oldest in Barcelona. Inaugurated in 1603, it was built on land donated by the Hospital de Sant Pau with the aim of raising funds for the health center.
When people talk about this theater, the people of Barcelona refer to it as the “cursed theater”, due to the amount of reopening it has seen.
There are currently no scheduled functions, but you can always come closer to observe the terracotta medallions of characters related to the world of the theater that protrude from its façade (1847).

The National Theater of Catalonia, also abbreviated as TNC, is one of the city’s public theaters. It was created by the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya, beginning its construction in 1991.
It is one of the most modern theaters in the city: the building and the surrounding gardens are impressive.
It consists of 3 large rooms, which host all kinds of events: concerts, plays, monologues, congresses, conferences, etc.

Opened in 1926 as a movie theater, it was renovated in 1989 to become a theater. Great shows, plays, actors and actresses have passed through it, making it one of the most important theaters in Barcelona, despite its small size.
Well, it was “constituted” or, rather, “it was constituted” as such, since due to problems with the lease of the premises, the 2020 season was the last season in which the theater opened its doors.
